OK SO basically this class was the first one since break. a little rough to say the LEAST but we did touch upon important reasons/ideologies behind the French Revolution:
- "Revolutions. Are they good or bad?" - Yarn
- by definition a revolution is a fundamental change in political power or organizational structures that take place in a relatively short period of time when the population rises up in revolt against the current authorities.
- So SHOCKER LILY SAID BOTH because it kind of is both. but it can't be.
- Some say (Maeve) that rather than REVOLUTIONS being Bad/good --> the CAUSE is what is bad or good and then we moved on
- What causes a Good Revolution or Bad Revolution for that matter?
- "good" in a sense of morality NOT necessarily success
- a good cause of a revolution is one that serves to benefit the common good/body of people/country
- HOWEVER THE FRENCH REVOLUTION IS NOT JUST ONE CAUSE
- Multitude of revolutions happening at the same time
- people / different classes have separate reasons behind why they are revolting
- is there something ANYTHING TO TIE THESE REASONS TOGETHER?
- Does a revolution mean something has gone askew??
- As confirmed by Erin so we know it is correct - this is SUBJECTIVE
- people in authority will have different perspective compared to Jacques the Peasant
- What UP WITH THESE THREE ESTATES
- 1.) Clergy 100,000
- 2.) Nobles few hundred thousand
- 3.) Commoners (MILLIONSSSSS) highly educated economic elites, lawyers, doctors, merchants, down to urban artisans and peasants)
- the third was accused of wanting to usurp the power of the first two but it was more of the elites of the third estate desiring the same political power to match their economic power
- How did the greatest country on earth *cough* AMERICA Influence France?
- Well AMERICA is amazing to say the least
- we won against Britain
- so then this gave France the guts to say HEY LETS DO IT TOOOOO WE CAN BE JUST AS COOL AS 'MURICA HAHHAHHAHAHAHHA no.
- How did absolutism suddenly cross over to Equality and Liberty???
- Philosophes LAID THE EGG
- but ENLIGHTENMENT WAS THE BIRD HATCHED BY A DIFFERENT BREED
- created a bridge between the two
- new ideologies of rationalism / human dignity / individualism /etc
- "Liberty, fraternity, and equality" YEET
- liberal men argued all citizens should have identical rights
- but nobility had no right to special privilege due to accident of birth
- but everyone should have equal chance at life and social mobility
I know this blog is short but we did not cover a lot :) HAPPY FIRST WEEK BACK
