Oh those Peasants...

So, is it okay for the Peasants to go around and chop off people's heads?

Answer: Well, they're hungry at the moment, so yeah.

The peasants are STARVING. The last thing on their minds during this time is some rich upperclass rules about equality and love and peace for everyone.
They would rather accept a bribe (some bread) from the king rather than fight and starve.

The difference basically was that the landowners are educated. They have the time and the money to draft this "constitution" and fully understand it. Meanwhile, the peasants were "dumb"--> they had no use for fancy terms on a piece of paper that would only end up harming them if they got involved with it.

So, who did this document of rights actually belong to?

Essentially, it was more for the third estate, but the upper class of this section.

What did the document reveal about the peasants?

God forbid, they were becoming *gasp* CONSERVATIVE.
The peasants don't want change or revolution. Just give them some food

But to finally answer the question from all the way at the top:
The peasants had their reasons to chop off heads.
They felt that no one really cared about their hunger or unemployment until the rich people needed them to sign a document.
Yet, this mini revolt got way out of hand. We can look towards "Crowd mentality" as an excuse, in that they were feeding off of each other. More heads got chopped off than intended.

And because every chapter has an update on women:

  • We are to bear children and raise them
  • the politics are so corrupt at this point in time that women use their "sexual charms" to manipulate those weak rulers. Ha. Men. smh.
Revolutionary changes:
  • the church is nationalized.
    • they abolished monasteries and gave it to the peasants to get more money for the land.
    • Priests are voted on
    • company pay roll ayyyy
    • Non Juring (?) Clergy: these are people who didn't take the updated Catholic oath
      • this only divided the Catholics and other religions in the country more.
      • obviously, the church is not a fan of this oath.
      • Yet, the state's plan worked: through this, they were able to corrupt and separate the church.
        • we can now see the rich people who corrupted the church and the people who actually enjoyed Jesus' mercy :/
  • the 83 departments
    • government is in more control
      • with the provinces, a duke or "ruler" in that province way basically by himself
      • But in the departments, the Parisian government had direct communication and rule between all of the departments.
      • Literally only America
        • this limited the power of the nobility greatly.
  • The Metric System. No words needed.

Finally, Edmund Burke was an important conservative man who claimed that the French were chaotic and heading to an inevitable demise. England ftw.

Class Updates:
this one's for Julia :)
We had everyone together and managed not to scream! First time ever!
Is single-sex education ANTI-FEMINIST?
And finally.... America is the best, our constitution is nothing like this one. The French are wrong because they are French, but America's declaration directly states "all people are created equally." But let's just ignore that statement for  400 years.
